Girls from the University of Tilburg want to reach the top three!

The female team from the University of Tilburg finished the first day of European Universities Beach Handball Championship with three victories. Before their match against Cyprus International University, we had the opportunity to talk with Sylvia van Bree and Marieke Derks who have shared with us their expectations from this competition.

For Sylvia great thing is that courts are on the Lake, so it looks like a nice holiday: '' It's very nice that we have the opportunity to play with students from all around Europe. It is very nice, with the Lake, and all the sports atmosphere, she said and added her anticipation of the Tournament: ''We keep on saying that there are six teams, and 50% of chance to be in top three. We didn't know about other Universities, now we saw a bit. This is the first time we play in this setup, but many of us play together in Camelot at Tilburg. In club Camelot, we train three times a week, while the other two of our girls play in other beach handball club on a bit higher level''.

Van Bree also told us that training beach handball is good for clearing your mind after studying: ''When you are studying whole day it's very nice to go on beach court and to make your mind clear. I like beach handball because it's such a fair play, nice weather, nice people. Everyone is nice to each other. Also going abroad, making a whole holiday out of it''.

While talking with Sylvia we had opportunity to meet her teammate Marieke Derks who agreed that is possible to study and play sports at the same time: ''I don't think it's hard to study and train in the same time. Practices are in the evening and they are very efficient. We train for two hours, and we can do a lot in those two hours''. Also, she told us why she loves beach handball: ''Everyone is so happy always and on the courts, it's very nice. It's just so amazing. Indoor handball is most of the time a little aggressive''.

For the end of the conversation, Sylvia and Marieke expressed hope that they will take part on European Universities Games 2020
